What should I do about this error message?

Recently I began to get error messages saying "This program has performed an illegal function and will shut down" - most of the time it only happens when I attempt to access Yahoo...

It is driving me nutso!

I am showing no viruses - have not a clue what has happened.

Windows does that. Its not really very well written or consumer oriented. Its primary purpose is to make money for Microsoft. Ah well.

Your best bet? Re-install. It will only take around 45 mins - way quicker than trying to figure out which crazy bug you have triggered.

Oh, you're probably running an old version of Internet Explorer. The later versions can do more complicated things and web pages designed to take advantage of them can cause the program logic to fail. The program crashes or blows up. As we like to call it, Internet Exploder.

You will need to upgrade to the highest version you can. You may need to upgrade your operating system.

Alternatively, investigate Firefox browser or Opera or any of the other alternatives.
I think the program just decided to go nuts. It happens from time to time. Computers are only as smart as their programmers and sometimes not even that.

What you can do is

1) uninstall the program:

start -%26gt; Control Panel -%26gt; Add/Remove Programs -%26gt; %26lt;Choose your program%26gt; -%26gt; and then uninstall it.

2) reinstall the program. if it's an exe, just double click on it... and follow the instructions. If that doesn't work, than the problem is something else entirely.

Let me know how this works
Are you using Internet Explorer or Firefox? If you aren't using Firefox you might try that to see if it fixes the problem. http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/
Put your Windows install disk in your cd rom drive. Open the Run... command form the start menu. Type

sfc /scannow

and hit enter.

This will take an hour or two. It will ckeck all the system files for corruption. Next, go to windows update and make sure IE and Windows is fully updated.

If you still have the problem, reinstall ActiveX and Java by downloading their respective installation programs.

Alternatively, you might want to just start using Mozilla's Firefox. There's a reason it has gained such popularity, it's better than IE.
u have windows!
